DYLITE   FAQ
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Q: Where is DYLITE manufactured today?
A: NOVA Chemicals currently produces DYLITE F271T at the Beaver Valley Plant Site (Monaca, PA). A capacity expansion in 2001 increased DYLITE resin production by almost 60%. NOVA Chemicals also produces other EPS cup grades at the Breda plant site in the Netherlands.

Q: What product attributes does NOVA Chemicals’ DYLITE resin offer?
A: DYLITE expandable polystyrene resins offers an extremely small bead size with narrow and consistent distribution that allows finished products to feature a high-gloss finish while giving the molder the opportunity to run production at a lower energy demand and higher mold fill speed.

Q: How is DYLITE F271T different from other EPS grades?
A: DYLITE is a high-performance expandable polystyrene specifically designed for thin-wall molding of cups and containers featuring an extremely small and narrow bead size distribution (approximately 200% smaller than EPS packaging and construction grades).

Q: With which regulatory approvals does DYLITE comply?
A: DYLITE complies with the following:
  • The U.S. Food and Drug Administration Code of Federal Regulations title 21,
section 177.1640 (Polystyrene) and 178.3010 (Blowing Agents)
  • The European Community Directive 90/128/EEC and 99/91/EC

Q: What are the quality attributes of an EPS foam cup molded from DYLITE resin     compared to alternative cup materials?
    A:
  • Better thermal insulation properties
  • Cold drinks stay cold longer in high temperature conditions
  • Hot drinks stay hot while not thermally conducting the heat,
        keeping customers hands cool
  • Eliminates the practice of “double cupping”
  • DYLITE foam cups produce less condensation on the outer walls of the cup
  • Less condensation results in a stronger container and reduces the effect of a
        soggy, sagging container
  • Strong and lightweight

Q: Does NOVA Chemicals make other EPS grades?
A: NOVA Chemicals manufactures a full line of packaging, construction and specialty EPS in both North America and Europe.

    Q: Where is DYLITE sold?
A: DYLITE is currently sold in over 25 countries worldwide.

Q: What are the environmental benefits of using DYLITE resin cups and containers?
    A:
  • Contains no CFC’s (Chlorofluorocarbons)
  • Takes 30% less energy to produce an EPS container than a coated, bleached
        paperboard container
  • Can be 100% recycled
  • Extremely efficient use of material — 95% air
