Up to 170 times less process water is required in the manufacturing of EPS cups compared to the same size paper cup. Paper cups of the same size require 30% more cooling water.

Pentane gas has no effect on the upper ozone layer. EPS cup manufacturers typically employ gas recovery systems to capture pentane emissions to avoid low-level smog formation. NOVA Chemicals has many grades of low-volatile EPS.
