He was hired as a Laboratory Technician, promoted to Technologist and currently holds the position of Research Technologist, in our Physical Test Lab. ~ Rick's comments about working at NOVA: What motivates you to stay at NOVA Chemicals? There are a number of reasons. Firstly, NOVA Chemicals is fundamentally a great company to work for. Secondly, the people. NOVA Chemicals has some very talented people working for them and I get to work with a diverse group of people in the polyolefins organization. The high level of knowledge and the attitude of commitment and respect is a constant. Finally, the work environment. NOVA Chemicals provides a dynamic work environment with constant change and demands. In my role I get to work on a vast number of projects and initiatives which keep me engaged and provide me with ample opportunity for personal growth and development. What has been your most rewarding experience or project at NOVA Chemicals? In my role as the Test Method Management Team leader, I am exposed to a variety of different departments and teams across the organization. This has given me the opportunity to learn about the business and the various functional groups. Leading the Test Method Management Team in standardization efforts can be challenging and yet very rewarding. It has allowed me to develop and grow and I look back at the progress the team has made with great pride. In your opinion, what makes NOVA Chemicals a preferred company in which to work? There are many factors which make NOVA Chemical a fantastic company to work for such as our commitment to Responsible Care™, the benefit and compensation packages and the flexibility for alternate work schedules. I think one of the biggest reasons I'm glad to be with NOVA Chemicals is due to the acquisition of NOVA Chemicals by the International Petroleum Investment Company in 2009. This has resulted in added strength and security in a competitive marketplace and has also led to a recent business re-focusing. I believe that the steps NOVA Chemicals has taken to secure long-term feedstock agreements, targeting strategic markets and focusing on our customers first really aligns well with our goal to be the best chemical company in the world. Combine this with our world-class facilities and technology and it's clear to me that NOVA Chemicals is headed for some exciting times. How do NOVA Chemicals' values and organizations culture contribute to your work experience? NOVA Chemicals is committed to a respectful, honest and professional work environment. This has allowed me to develop my interpersonal skills and has ensured strong relationships and friendships within the organization. How are you making a difference at NOVA Chemicals? Through the Test Method Management Team, I have had the opportunity to create inter-departmental processes. Through the standardization efforts of this team, we have been able to implement common procedures and processes at all of our polyolefins assets. This has resulted in uniting the assets allowing us to work as a team, building on each other's knowledge and strengths.
